MAFCU in the Community

MAFCU embraces the credit union philosophy of concern for community. MAFCU works collaboratively with members, affiliates, and the surrounding community in a variety of ways — hosting events, participating in MAFCU's affiliate groups' fundraising efforts, and supporting community projects throughout the area.

MAFCU Staff Raises Funds Through Casual Dress

One of the ways that MAFCU raises funds for community projects is through staff casual dress fundraisers. Participating employees contribute $2 a day or $6 a week when they choose to wear casual business attire.

Since November 2009, more than $1,200 has been raised through the participation and donations of MAFCU employees.

"It's a really easy and painless way for our employees to contribute to a worthy cause, and gives staff the opportunity to enjoy coming to work dressed in comfortable and relaxed business casual attire," says Viana Lucchesi, Vice President of Human Resources and Administrative Services.

MAFCU employees have also participated in selecting a specific charity or cause where funds are sent. Past casual dress donations include Mercy Corps, Greater Boston Sickle Cell, Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, Jeffrey Modell Foundation, and most recently Partners in Health. The current Casual Dress Fundraiser runs through September.

A MAFCU Family Album

Long-time members of MAFCU enjoy a special connection to the Credit Union - a sense of belonging, much like members of a family.

This Community Report tells the stories of three MAFCU members and their families, along with highlights from the year. Their stories illustrate the Credit Union's dedication to members.

Cover Haiti WIth Love!

Cover Haiti With Love

Thanks to all who helped us Cover Haiti with Love!  MAFCU staff and volunteers packed 66 boxes of sheets, pillows, and pillow cases on Saturday, May 15, at our Cover Haiti with Love event to benefit Partners in Health in Haiti. Thanks also to all who donated funds and who bought specially designed t-shirts.

Partners in Health is a Brigham and Women's Hospital-affiliated medical organization that has provided medical care in Haiti for more than twenty years.  A special thanks to the many volunteers who helped make our event a success.

We recently have received reports that children in the Mattapan/Roxbury area have been soliciting illegal donations for Cover Haiti with Love.  These children are wearing MAFCU Cover with Love t-shirts, sold during our fundraiser, but have no affiliation with the Credit Union.  MAFCU's Haiti benefit has concluded and members who still want to donate are urged to do so directly through Partners In Health http://www.pih.org
