You join by opening a Share Savings Account with a minimum deposit and minimum balance of $25. Since credit union members are credit union owners, that $25 is your share in the credit union.
As a member you have a say in how the Credit Union is run. When you join MAFCU, you'll be entitled to vote for Credit Union's Board of Directors, who set policy, promote thrift, and make decisions in the best interest of the members.
If you change jobs, finish school, or leave MAFCU's field of membership, you may continue to enjoy the benefits of a being a MAFCU member. Once a member, always a member, as long as you maintain the minimum balance in your share account.
Some members of our staff are bilingual and can accommodate Spanish-speaking members.
All deposits are fully insured up to $250,000 per member by the NCUA, National Credit Union Administration, a US Government agency.

If you are an employee, student, or volunteer from one of our affiliate groups or are a family member of an employee, student, or volunteer, you are eligible to become a member of MAFCU.
You are eligible to join MAFCU when you join one of our affiliate groups such as Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association.
Once you join, all members of your extended family and household are eligible to join MAFCU.
Once you make your initial deposit, you are a member eligible to take advantage of all the services we offer.
Simply follow this link to our secure online membership application. Follow the instructions, fill out the form and send by clicking the Submit button. Your information will be received securely by a MAFCU representative. When submitting your application, please send in your $25 deposit either by mail or by visiting one of our branches--365 Boylston Street, Brookline, MA, or 221 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA.
To open your new account, complete a signature card and give it to one of our Member Service Representatives. You will need a goverment- issued picture ID. Be sure to supply all the information requested and sign both sides of the card. Then make your initial deposit - a minimum of $25 - to open your account. If you would like to do so by check, make it payable to Medical Area Federal Credit Union. Give both items to a Member Service Representative for processing. You will then receive your MAFCU account number, a receipt verifying your initial deposit, and information about MAFCU.
